HOW TO STAY HEALTHY

Avoiding Germs Whilst Travelling

The average speed of a sneeze is 90mph, 1.5 times faster than the average UK intercity train, and can potentially infect a number of people, especially in confined spaces. Here's how to help keep your bugs to yourself and avoid everyone else's.

  • If you're sneezing and have a blocked up stuffy nose, you may have a cold. Colds can occur all year round, not just in winter. Hold a tissue over your nose when you cough or sneeze and dispose of it immediately afterwards.
  • Don't read all about it! It might seem polite to offer your newspaper to others, don't! The pages may be impregnated with germs from other people handling them.
  • Wash your hands! Many germs are spread from hand to hand. Help by giving your body a bug-busting boost, use an anti-bacterial handwash before and after travel such as Dettol Healthy Touch Antibacterial Handwash.
  • Don't touch! Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth, as the cold virus can take hold in these vulnerable areas.
  • Have a laugh! Your immune system works best at fighting colds when you're happy. Have something amusing to read on your morning commute.
  • Have a nap! If you have a long train commute take a power nap. Your body's immunity will function better with sufficient rest.
  • And finally... be prepared! When you are suffering with a cold or flu you are likely to have a range of symptoms, from a blocked nose to fever, or from a sore throat to a chesty cough. Lemsip Max All in One Lemon sachets can help treat all the major symptoms of your cold and flu and starts to get to work in 5 minutes.*
